Arizona State University releases pavement study

Researchers at Arizona State University (ASU) recently released modernized guidelines for asphalt pavement construction that are receiving national attention. A team from ASU’s Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering developed algorithms and models for advanced quality assurance and control processes for pavement construction projects.

In this study the “as constructed” and “plant produced” properties were used directly to predict the lifespan of the pavement. The research was performed in conjunction with the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP). Findings were shared with an international audience through an online seminar.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) is providing funding through the NCHRP to continue the research for the 2010-2011 fiscal year.
